  How to Help

The cost of rescuing these wonderful dogs......

2017, so far, has been a rewarding year for our Rescue. We have had many wonderful (and often needy) dogs arrive from Puerto Rico. Honey, the little girl who was molested by a human...had surgery (over $2000) and is happily no longer incontinent and is well loved in her forever home .Other dogs, like  Summer, our "record holder" for longest and most expensive dog ever in rescue (we had her in foster care for a year and 3 months) found a wonderful forever home. But getting her healthy cost almost $6000. We rescued Willow from MDAS....she had been hit by a car. Her surgery and hospitalization bill was $3026. Her family found her on our FB page and came to get her, after surgery....we're glad she's home...but we paid the bill. Then there is Benji. He was to be euthanized the afternoon we rushed in to get him (again from MDAS). He was one sick little guy. Turns out he had a diaphragmatic hernia and every organ, except one kidney was inside his chest. Surgery and hospitalization.....close to $3000. But all good! He is in a forever home now. Next, here comes Elvis. The owner surrender. Let's see, Heart worm positive. A mass the size of a golf ball on his right leg and, oh yes, a nodule on his para thyroid gland. But, the good news...it's all operable and he will be fine. We're probably looking at about $3000 inclusive. Why are we telling you all this? Well for one thing....WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE RESCUES AND SAVES WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED. And number two...we just want people to be aware of what it costs to save these dogs. We aren't mentioning the every day expenses of spaying/neutering, Heart worm treatment, treating kennel cough, flea and tick treatment  etc. So when people are "surprised" that we get donations for adopting dogs....here's what it looks like from inside. We aren't asking for money (although it never hurts😀). It looks like our medical bills this year will be well over $100,000. It's not inexpensive to save dogs...but incredibly rewarding....and we hope we can continue to do this for many years to come.
