We light a candle for our Friend Grinnin Gilbert and  send our condolences

to our friend

Pam (Rescue Person extraordinaire.) from Arizona.

Godspeed GG and thank you for all the happy smiles over the years

In Memory of Grinnin Gilbert Skowronek
Match 1, 1998-July 11, 2007

I probably don't have to tell you that GG was my heart, my love, and
constant companion for 9 years 4 months and 11 days. He was my love, a true
gentleman, giver of love and grinner extraordinaire.

I found Gilbert on a lonely highway in the middle of the desert. I remember
the day we saved him from imminent peril on the highway, the loneliness of
nothing there and eating garbage or whatever he could find. I remember
after he came he would sleep so soundly he howled at the evils he
encountered. It broke our hearts.

Shortly after we got him we found he had Valley Fever. He would surely have
died from that had he not been saved. We worked the medicine over the years
and he became the Arizona Spokesdoggie for VF in dogs. He shown his light
and people understood that not only can people get VF but our precious pets
could as well.

Gilbert was one that loved going to events. Anytime you touched a bandanna
he was right there sitting reading for the bandanna and his halter. He knew
he was going to make people smile, lend a paw to someone who wanted to make
his acquaintenace, give a nice lean in on someone who was hurting from loss,
or go belly up when the children wanted to give belly rubs. He was the
sweetie that spoke rescue, through and through. People "got it",
they "understood" and they were "hooked". He shined, he smiled and you
could tell this is what he was here for.

Gilbert also welcomed 14 different fosters into his home, always the
gentleman, the brother, the welcome wagon.

I believe our greatest adventure together was the trip to the Golden
Retriever National in Malibu, California. He got a bath, groomed and away
we went. Even though GG wasn't prime breeding he was gorgeous and he knew
it. He strutted around and made everyone smile, after all, that IS how he
got his name.

I have faith that his precious face will always be remembered for the life
he lived, despite his poor beginning. He gave so much of himself to rescue
and to people in general that he knew in his heart that it was his calling
and he left this earth knowing that he did his job.

We couldn't have asked for a better companion, a better friend, the grin
that will last forever in our hearts. God bless you sweetie, you were one
in a million and we were blessed to know you down to your soul.

We light a candle for Spencer

SPENCER (Ch. Oakhurst Mountain Maverick, SC,
VCD1, CDX, RN, ET, VC)

Spencer is the star of a lovely short movie called "Begleiter" that was written , produced and directed by Dan Margules. I got to know Dan and his wonderful female star Aleisha Russell at the Delray Beach Film Festival. I fell in love with Spencer and with this movie. For me it was the ultimate chick flick. I invited Penny from Boca Dog magazine for lunch and a movie and when it was over she looked at me and said "What a lovely Fairy Tale (or in this case Fairy Tail).

Spencer died in his sleep at seven years old. We light a candle for Spencer and his human Maril Suess.

Begleiter is playing at Old School Square all summer long. If your local please try to get over there -this is the number

Today we light a candle for

Dr Steven Paul

Dr Steven Paul was an extremely kind and big hearted man. It wasn’t enough to run his two animal hospitals. Years ago on a trip to Boston after visiting Boston Common , he came back to South Florida and started the first dog park  in South Florida. Not only the first but really the best. I spent two years going to this dog park when my goldens were young-getting up early in the morning to meet my friends so my dogs could run. We formed a group to walk in the “Walk for the animals” from the dog park. Participating in the dog day run. Two years ago Dr Paul allowed me to video tape the entire  day for a project that I was working on called “Dogumentary #!”
I made Dr Paul a small montage of the day-the compression is a bit wicked but here it is
http://www.skipspharmacy.com/vid/dogdayrunmomtageavi2.mov
This was my project
http://www.skipspharmacy.com/vid/dogumentary1small.mov
He was always supportive to my Golden rescue and a great fan and devoted human to his goldens ,Saint and to Parker.
He provided funds for the Sun States Animal Blood Bank so people who did not have enough money could get blood for theirs dogs if they needed it.
He ran affordable microchip clinics at the dog park in coral springs.
He so much appreciated honesty and one could be totally blunt with him.
When it is said he will cross the rainbow bridge -he will- and not just  Saint and his kitty will be waiting for him but many many dogs that he helped along the way.

Cyndi

We also light a candle for Allen Babcock a wonderful rescue person.

For Molly Ivans, there surely is a big hole in the force with you not here

Today we light a candle for Rick's Gracie

Rick took in Gracie as a foster dog when she was abandoned at my Sid the Veterinarian at Delray Beach Animal Hospital. After a week weeks he became what we call

a foster Failure. Yesterday Gracie went to the bridge after a brave fight with Cancer.

Here is Gracie with Susie. also a tropical dog.

God Speed Gracie and we know that you'll be waiting for Rick at the bridge.

Today we light a candle for Ellie's Kendall

A hurricane Andrew dog. You can read more about Kendall at

Today we light a candle for Sebastian. Sebastian was found in Miami and after an extensive search for his owners he was adopted to Carin and Richard from the west coast of Florida. Dana was the person that fostered him and made sure he found a safe haven.

Thank you so Much Dana, Carin and Richard for making sure that this beautiful boy ha a wonderful life.

This is Dana's story on how he found Sebastian

On afternoon, I took my twin children Tyler and Lauren to Wainwright Park to play. They were about 2 or 3 years old at the time. When we entered the park, Wainwright (as I named him) was sitting at the front gate by himself with a tennis ball at his feet... I didn't take too much notice of him. When we were getting ready to leave the park at sundown, he was still there by himself waiting at the gate. He had a red collar on, but no ID tags. My children were petting him, and then some children that live across the street from the park approached us with their mother. They asked if he belonged to us, and I said no. She said that he had been at the park all day, and that no one seemed to know where he belonged.

It's unlikely that he wandered into the park, because of its location... its in a very high-end neighborhood, on the water of Biscayne Bay, next door to where Stallone and Madonna had houses on either side of the park, and near Vizcaya. There are only a few home on this street, and it is surrounded by US-1, I-95 and Brickell Ave... all very busy streets. I imagined that somebody "dumped" him there, and he was dutifully waiting for them to return by the front gate... how sad!

Well... since they were closing up the park, and the lady from across the street was not about to take him into her mansion, but was going to call Dade County Animal Control to have him taken to the shelter, I figured that I would take him home.

Without saying a word to him, we began walking towards my car, and he followed us... the children laughed with glee... another dog! What's Mommy going to say? Mommy's going to kill me when I get home... that's what!

At the time, I had two goldens at home, and I didn't have room to foster him long term. He lived with us for about a week, and played with the children and my goldens. I searched for his owners, posted signs in the local parks, ad in the paper, etc. Then I found Cyndi and the Golden Retriever Rescue, and she offered to get Wainwright into a foster home, and ultimately to be adopted by you. The rest, as they say, is history. My twins still ask about him, where he is, and what he is doing... and they are still a little upset that he bit into and popped their purple kickball when they were playing with him one day.

Today is January 29th and we light a candle for my friend  Don & his wife Victoria's

dog  Frosty for a speedy trip to the rainbow bridge.

A note from Don

Frosty left us on January 28th.  We were blessed to have over 12 years with the best dog who was both protector and friend.  My wife would always call him her guardian angel.  We'll always miss Frosty, but we know he's crossed the rainbow bridge and will be waiting for us when the time comes.

Godspeed Frosty!!!

We light a candle for Jag

Photo Copyright © 2005 Janis Fonceca and Teddy Baxter

A few weeks ago I traveled to Boulder with my parents -it was a very difficult trip to bring them some place to live (near my sister) I did have time however to have a 4 hour lunch with one of my golden listers Jen D who told me the story of Jag.

Because I could not believe that anyone would hurt a dog and not tell the owners I had this fantasy that Jag ran off

and found a home with a little boy or girl that was paralyzed and that Jag inspired him or her to walk. My brain just would not let me go any where else.

A witness has come forward that Jag had died at his last dog show

you can read about it here and sign the petition.

Even those of us that wouldn't know what to do at a dog show need to sign

out of respect for Jag and for Janis and Teddy.

You all don't know me but my heart breaks for what you have  gone through and your golden community weeps with youand morns with you.

Here is the info

Most folks have heard about the tragedy  of Jag.  Although Jag will never be
home with his loving family, we can try and do something that will prevent
this type of accident from happening again.

Please go to http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/jag and sign your
name and forward this to any other lists, dog clubs or people you know.
There is a signature goal of 250,000 but I'm pretty sure we, as dog
lovers, can get easily more than that.

If you would like to read Jag's story, you will find it at
http://www.jagcomehome.com

Thank you,

Deb Haggerty

We light a candle for Dana's Winslow

WINSLOW

From Dana;

Winslow was my first Golden, named after my best friend and windsurfing buddy Jim Winslow. When “Winzie” first came into our home, he just an 8 week old puppy and was our only dog. About a year later, I rescued an abused and abandon female Golden from streets of Miami, and Winslow made his new companion Lady feel right at home, and helped her to learn to trust us. Winzie loved to swim and fetch like most Goldens do, but he also had an unusual sweet tooth, as he loved to eat fallen mangoes from our trees (even though he was allergic and they made him itch!) He was a gentle and affectionate dog, faithful and obedient. He was ever so tolerant with our twin children were born into the family. He guarded the gate to our home and enjoyed wrestling with Lady in the backyard. He aged gracefully, becoming grey in the muzzle, but died suddenly from cardiac arrest just a few minutes after being rushed to the emergency vet clinic late one night. Our beloved Winslow will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by us all, forever.

please say a prayers for Deb & Rich's Daisy

Please say a prayer and light a candle for our old girl Daisy as she made
her way to Rainbow Bridge about 20 min ago.   We don't know how old she was,
but we are guessing 14 plus.

She came into our lives 5 years ago as she was abandon during a rain storm.
We look her in as a foster and then couldn't let her go.  Daisy was blind
and deaf but that did not stop her from playing with all the Spuds and our
many visitors.

Although she had slowed down in recent weeks, she had a wonderful time this
past weekend with many of her human and canine friends visiting.  She was
right up front when treats were given out and her funny little seal bark
made everyone smile.

I don't know what the early years were like for Daisy, but I like to think
that the last five she knew she was loved and those are the memories she
will take to the bridge.

Daisy was an old dog that someone had thrown away and to us she was the
perfect addition to our family and stole our hearts.  We have known for
awhile that she was fading.  I'm so glad she hung on to see everyone last
weekend and to also get to spend time with Spud-Nik.  I believe that the
dogs learn from each other and I'm so glad that Spuddy got to know Daisy.

We love you Daisy and cherished every day you spent with us.  Be free and
romp at the bridge until we meet again.

Deb and Rich

Whenever I took Beauty for a ride I would open all the windows, she would sit tall in the back seat of my 4 door sedan and I would play John Denver's Country road music.  Beauty just loved the wind blowing in her face and blowing her ears back, listening to Country Road, Take me Home by John Denver.

So when I picked her up last night from the Animal hospital where she had been privately cremated I put her in the car and played John Denver again, except this time she rode in the front seat with me in a beautiful white box with a bright blue ribbon on it and off we went for a leisurely ride back home along the country road.

The wind was blowing strongly and the music was glaring as loud as I could stand it and I know in my heart that Beauty was enjoying it as much as I was through my tears of sadness, sorrow and joy just knowing she was going home once again for the last time. Take Care, June

This is Carol's Minnie -Moo

This is a picture of my Minnie-moo..  She was the one old girl I pulled from death row at the pound 4 yrs ago, she was heartworm positive, so thin you could see all her bones, and  a leg that was broken sometime in her life that was never fixed so she walked with a limp. We treated her heartworm and fattened her up. She was up for adoption for a while but was passed over which turned out to be a blessing for Dave and I, she was the kindest, most loving girl. On breezy days she would hold her head in the wind and close her eyes as if to say Life is Good. Minnie we miss you and know you are running and playing with Sally, Gimpy, and the cats Aileron and Lucky. We love you and thank you for the joy you brought in to our lives.

Today is Weds April 13th

With great sadness we announce the death of a Rescue angel,  Don Meredith DVM.  A very kind man who helped rescue always.  He passed away yesterday very suddenly. Dr Don we light our candle for you today.

Could you possible pick up Bo on the way and look after him?

Today is Tuesday April 12

I write this in a sea of tears. Bo has passed on. He was a 200 lb golden brought into rescue by Mid Florida Golden Retriever Rescue. that's  not a typo, 200 lbs.

All he needed was some thyroid medicine  and this never would have happened to him. The cost of the medicine would be less than one bottle of beer- the owners would have to give up in order for him to be ok. Sorry to be so nasty-usually I'm not-

If your a person out there that cannot afford vet care for your dog there are places you can go for help- Animal Aid or The Pet Aid League -

there is no reason for this to happen-ever

Dear Bo

Mid Florida and Alove loved you so

May you run jump and play at the rainbow bridge

and look lovingly down at the good people

from Mid Florida Golden Rescue who tried so hard to give you a good life.

May all of us that do rescue spread the word that there are alternatives so that this does not happen to a Golden heart ever again.

We light a candle for Leia

Leia was poisoned by some horrible person that put antifreeze in her outside water bowl. These horrible them used chocolate to lure the dogs to the bowl.  I don't understand how anyone could do anything like this to an innocent animal.

Leia was my first Golden baby.  We got her as a kind of companion dog for me, as I suffer from fainting spells.  She took to her role without any formal training other than basic obedience.  She was a sweet dog that loved everyone, had a temperament that we dream of.  She will be greatly missed!  5-5-03 to 12-14-04  Mrs. John Salabsky

" In the Candle's Glow"

Warm light coming from far below

Twinkling, sparkling is the candle's glow

All is well up on the ridge,

The Place we know as Rainbow Bridge

Fur-babies sleeping in heaven's light,

Tended by candles in the night

Peaceful dreams be theirs to keep,

As they slumber in this night so deep.

Hears on earth that miss them so,

Take comfort in the candle's glow

Watching for them in skies above

Bound eternally by a cord of love.

I rescued Mr. Manny IN 12/2002 from this site.  He was a blessing to me.  He had the biggest soul and a heart of gold.  Manny was always next to me in my home and hardly ever left my side.  Manny was compassionate and caring.  Manny became ill last September 2003 of lymphosarcoma.  He was very stressed just prior to becoming ill.  Right before he became ill I thought Manny would do better in another home without dogs.  The only problem I ever had with Manny was that he did not get along with other dogs and did not get along with one that was in my own home.  So, I found a new home for him, sent him there for two weeks.  The biggest mistake I ever made in my life.  I knew I had made a big mistake the first night he was not at home.  I felt awful.  I then ended up going to Ft. Myers to pick him up and bring him home b/c he was so depressed and not himself in that home.  SO, Mr. Manny and I came back home to his "forever home."   I miss him dearly today.  I think about him everyday.  His spirit is missed very much.  I learned a lot from Manny.  I just want to say thank you to him.  I also want to say thank you to this rescue organization for allowing me to have Manny.  I know that today Manny is free of any physical or emotional pain.  Thank you Mr. Manny for being in my life!

CINDY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!!!!

Today is May 1, 2004 -we light a candle for Dave Larsen's Hogan

Today is April 21,2004 -we light a candle for Arlene's "Dutch"

Arlene wrote: Dutch has been everything in the world to me; my first champion, first show dog, first obedience title, therapy dog and first and foremost my heart dog.  We have traveled many miles together, shared man chicken soft tacos and  Dairy Queen frozen yogurts.  Our road and time have been a joyful one and I will treasure every moment.  I know all my dog friends because of him; we all met because I chose to run around a show ring with my boy.

May you have a peaceful trip to the bridge Dutch

Golden heart of mine,

Lying next to me always.

I still feel your warmth.

Today is January 31 2004. This morning at 7:20 Barclay Van Tassel died. He had been suffering from Bloat and he lost the battle and went to the Rainbow bridge.

It is  a heart break when our dogs die.

I will dedicate this page to all of us that have goldens at the bridge and i would ask everyone to send pictures. I dedicate this page to Barclay.

Barclay came to Jo, from a 'breeder' who felt he wasn't performing well in the ring.  He had fathered litters by that time and when he arrived at Jo's, he was smelly, scared and untrained.  Jo's love and devotion to him, turned him into the wonderful, loving sweet boy he was.

Barclay's human Jo is a good friend of mine. Jo a started a wonderful list-serv called alove4goldens. (link on the links page.) This wonderful list serv has brought together all kinds of folks -rescue people, breeders, owners and people looking for a golden. It is the most amazing place where we all respect each other , learn from each other and have raised thousands of dollars for causes like rescue , individual rescue dogs and K-9 cancer. If not for Barkey and his sister Harley inspiring JO this never would have happened. I am a better owner and rescue person because of Jo and Barclay and Harley.

Here's to you BarclayVan Tassel

Please give licks to all our Golden Friends at the Bridge

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

"The Rainbow Connection"

Kermit: Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...

... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be...
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

Laa, da daa dee da daa daa,
La laa la la laa dee daa doo...

Fare thee well (Indigo Girls)

fare thee well my bright star
i watched your taillights blaze into nothingness
but you were long gone before I ever got to you
before you blazed past this address
and now I think of having loved and having lost
but never know what it feels like to never love
who can say what's better when my heart's become the cost
a mere token of a brighter jewel sent from above
fare thee well my bright star
the vanity of youth the color of your eyes
and maybe if i'd fanned the blazing fire of your day-to-day
or if i'd been older i'd been wise
too thick the heat of those long summer evenings
for a cool evening i began to yearn
but you could only feed upon the things which feed a fire
waiting to see if i would burn
fare thee well my bright star
it was a brief brilliant miracle dive
that which i looked up to and i clung to for dear life
had to burn itself up just to make itself alive
and i caught you then in your moment of glory
your last dramatic scene against a night sky stage
with a moment so clear that it's as if you're still before me
my once in a lifetime star of an age
so fare thee well my bright star
last night the tongues of fire circled me around
and this strange season of pain will come to pass
when the healing hands of autumn cool me down
